Glasses again

Well, after about 10 years I need glasses once again. For those of you who don’t know (probably most) my eyesight is not that great. I have one wonky eye that is weaker than the other. This means that most of the time it’s actually out of focus and I see almost completely out of my good eye. Its bad for reading, and especially for night driving, where my depth perception gets particularly thrown out of wack. It also can cause an overall sense of fatigue since my brain has to work harder to consolidate two images from eyes that are seeing different things.

I had glasses when I was younger, and after a good number of years of wearing them, my optometrist told me that if I didn’t want to wear them any more, I probably wouldn’t need them again. Big mistake. I said goodbye, and after ten years, my eyesight is as bad again as it ever has been. Thanks from lots of… prompting.. from Tracey I finally made an appointment to have the binoculars checked. And I’m really glad she convinced me to. With the amount of time I spend reading, looking at a computer, and driving at night I think it will be really good. I also think it will help me feel more together. I rarely bring anything I see into focus 100% because it takes so much work. The idea of not having to work to see crisply seems very nice:)

Funny story.. after my first appointment I checked out some frames and picked about 6 that i thought I’d like to choose between. I brought trace in a few days later, and she basically told me she didn’t like any of them. I was pretty bummed. But.. aftre only a few minutes she picked out a pair that not only looked better than any of the ones I had picked, they were way more comfortable too! And if she hadn’t been there I probably would have never taken them off of the rack on my own. Thanks Trace:) I’m lucky to have you.

In other news.. I’m actually considering an iPod touch. The iPhone is too expensive and I’m not into the huge monthly fees, but after checking out my friend Kyle’s Im very intrigued with the touch. No monthly fee, and it not only acts like a traditional iPod, it’s also a calender/datebook, portable digital storage device, which would be very handy for me since I’m always transferring audio/video files, and also an email device. You get free internet wherever there’s wifi wireless internet, which there is at my house, tracey’s house, and at my work, the three places I spend 90% of my time. It seems like it could be something I could use to actually get myelf organized. I have never been able to consitently carry around a pen and paper datebook, too much hassle, and I can’t make myself sit down and fill out calenders on a computer, plus you can’t check those wherever you are. My varied and busy schedule demands some organization, I just haven’t been able to find a system that works for me. It seems like a touch could be an answer. Looking for advice from people who have one or an iPhone. I think I would use one because it is so handy, you can have it on you all the time, and the calender app and email seems very easy to use. Do you have one? Has it imporved your organization? I’d love to hear what you think of them if so.

Thats the majority of the news for now. Things are good. i get to see Tracey tomorrow, and I’m very excited. i haven’t gotten to see her very much this week, and I miss her very much. Life is good:)

One Response to “Glasses again”

  1. hey bro. sent you an email about the touch. in short: great idea.
the only thing I can suggest otherwise is picking up “Getting Things Done” by David Allen. Having a PDA or a pocket book isn’t going to change your habits. I haven’t read the book but have read a lot of blogs about the ideas, and really want to get my hands on the book to get an overview of the whole system.
    pce!
